発表前にApple Watchを高評価していたAppleの共同創業者であるスティーブ・ウォズニアックがフィナンシャル·レビューのインタビューに答え、Apple Watchについて語っています。
Apple Watchは、Watch Sports、Watch、Watch Editionの３つがありますが、ウォズは最も低価格なWatch Sportsを買う予定だそうです。
“If you buy the really high-priced ones, the jewellery ones, then you’re not buying a smartwatch that has a bunch of apps … Like a Rolex watch, you’re buying if for prestige and a label and a symbol of who you are,” Mr Wozniak said.
“The fact is the difference between a $10,000 watch and a $17,000 dollar watch is only the band, and for an engineer like me I don’t live in that world, that’s not my world.”
ということで、ロレックスの腕時計のようにステータスシンボルとして買うなら(Watch Editionも)いいけど、私のようなエンジニアはそんな世界には住んでいない、という趣旨ですね。
ただ、Watch Editionを批判しているわけではなく、「毎日使うつもりだから宝飾品は必要ない」ということです。
買おうと思えばWatch Editionも余裕で買えるのだろうけど、無駄な買い方をしないというか実用主義というか、こういうところも彼が愛される所以なのでしょうね。
